There is a Docker desktop app for Windows, which is a fabulous tool for running Docker containers. While it provides a really good user experience, it unfortunately does not have GPU support, so we won't be able to use it. We will have to install Docker using an install script within our Linux shell like this: curl https://get.docker.com | s The NVIDIA Container Toolkit is a docker image that provides support to automatically recognize GPU drivers on your base machine and pass those same drivers to your Docker container when it runs. So if you are able to run nvidia-smi , on your base machine you will also be able to run it in your Docker container (and all of your programs will be able to reference the GPU) Preview of Docker Desktop with GPU support in WSL2 To get started with Docker Desktop with Nvidia GPU support on WSL 2, you will need to download our technical preview build from here. Once you have the preview build installed there are still a couple of steps you will need to do to get started using your GPU Hier sollte eine Beschreibung angezeigt werden, diese Seite lässt dies jedoch nicht zu This then allows you to run (for example) docker run --runtime=nvidia to automatically add GPU support to your containers. It also installs a wrapper script around the native docker CLI called nvidia-docker which lets you invoke docker without needing to specify --runtime=nvidia every single time. It also lets you set an environment variable on the host (NV_GPU) to specify which GPUs should be injected into a container

  1. Update (October 2019): nvidia-docker is deprecated, as Docker 19.03 has native support for NVIDIA GPUs. Instead install nvidia-container-runtime, and use the docker run --gpus all flag. You can also run Windows Containers with GPU acceleration on a Windows host, using Docker 19.03, but not a Linux container
  2. Windows containers support GPU acceleration for DirectX and all the frameworks built on top of it. Note This feature is available in Docker Desktop, version 2.1 and Docker Engine - Enterprise, version 19.03 or later
  3. utes. By default, a container has no resource constraints and can use as much of a given resource as the host's kernel scheduler allows. Docker provides ways to control how much memory, or CPU a container can use, setting runtime configuration flags of the docker run command. This section provides details on when you should set such limits and the possible implications of setting them

Doing so has a few prerequisites: You must install the kvm2 driver If you already had this installed make sure that you fetch the latest docker-machine-driver-kvm2 binary that has GPU support. Your CPU must support IOMMU. Different vendors have different names for this technology There are a few reasons why adding GPU support is not that easy. Main reason is that k3s is using containerd as it's container runtime. Most tutorials and also the official NVIDIA k8s device plugin assume docker as the container runtime. While you can easily switch to docker in k3s, we didn't want to change the runtime itself

CUDA is a parallel computing platform and programming model developed by NVIDIA for general computing on graphical processing units (GPUs). With CUDA, developers can dramatically speed up computing applications by harnessing the power of GPUs. The CUDA Toolkit from NVIDIA provides everything you need to develop GPU-accelerated applications By default, when no CPU limits are set on individual Docker containers, one container can use up all the available CPU resource on the server. Thus, it would affect all other containers and eventually make them slow. This causes big issue for the websites or applications running on containers. From our experience in managing Docker infrastructure, our Docker Experts often see high CPU usage by. Since Docker didn't support GPUs natively, this project instantly became a hit with the CUDA community.
